I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’m still not sure now!
I started my finance career with an AAT qualification in my 20’s whilst working in an automotive auction company. I began there as a cashier and worked my way to the area management accountant for the four north west auction sites during the 15 years I was there.
I didn’t just work though. During my years there I completed my AAT, scored a 2:1 degree and had two children! It was a bit of a busy time and I discovered a love of numbers and being able to help my stakeholders understand them became a bit of a passion.
It was when my eldest went into a local Scouts group that I fell into volunteering. I loved the idea of ‘putting something back’ into the community that I was raised in and became the Treasurer of the group. From that I was part of the re-creation of Stretford Children’s Theatre as the Treasurer again…bit of a theme here! I’ve helped a few more charities and not for profit organisations as a finance helper along the way too.
There was an opportunity for me to leave my old job and I took a leap of faith – and it paid off big time! I joined Beyond Profit on a part time basis in February this year fulfilling an ambition to work within the third sector.
My job involves the completion of the month end management accounts, the annual statutory accounts and face to face meetings with our clients. I discuss their numbers and any financial requirements they have to help them realise and reach their full potential.
Myself, Rhys (eldest son, 13), Ethan (youngest son 11) and our pet cat Countess Scout von Fuzzypaws (just Scout to her friends, she’s on instagram as The Countess).
Favourite Football Club
Flixton Falcons & Meadowside Destroyers (my kids team) and Manchester United.
What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I look after my allotment – I love to grow fruit and veg using the produce to make pasta sauces and home baking.
Spaghetti Carbonara without the mushrooms.
If you could have a superpower what would it be?
If I had a superpower it would be the ability to be in four places at any time. I’d get so much more done in the day!
