It’s that time of year again, when we reflect on the challenges and achievements of the past year, and look ahead to what’s coming. As the festive season draws near, I wanted to take a moment to share a message with all of you.
To be honest, up until a few days ago, I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to say. In fact, I had even written a light-hearted parody of “Jingle Bells” — all about the challenges charities face. But as I thought more about it, I realised that this didn’t quite feel right.
Then, inspiration struck during my morning run. Over the past few days, I’ve had the privilege of visiting several charities alongside one of my charity clients who is a grant giver. The experience truly inspired me. What stood out the most was the incredible passion these people have for the work they do. It’s absolutely unbelievable.
Next year is bound to be challenging for many in the charity sector, I know that. Grants are becoming scarcer, local authority contracts are under pressure, and with the increase in minimum wage and National Insurance contributions, things will be tighter. But what keeps us all going, even in the toughest times, is the passion we have for our work.
So, when the going gets tough, I want you to remember why you do what you do. You’re in this because you care. You’re here to make a difference — to improve the lives of the people who benefit from your charity’s work. That’s what matters, and that’s what will keep you going, even when things seem really hard.
Thank you for all you do, and never forget the impact you’re making. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas!
